About Transferring |
Important Information about Transferring to the UVU System |
One of our primary goals in creating this new e-mail system was to provide a fresh start, a clean slate, from which you can build a collaboration system that works best for you. Accordingly, we urge you to follow the guidelines we provide in making the transition. At each step, we'll provide advice and insight to help you decide how to best deal with each item. |
To Move or Not To Move |
There are some things that you simply should not move, not because they aren't important, but because they don't apply in the new system (uvsc.edu addresses in your address book for instance). Other things that are important to move may be hidden in places you wouldn't expect. We'll provide help for you as you move the important things. |
Junk |
Most of us have something sitting around that we consider to be junk, even in our GroupWise system. If we move our junk along with us, we'll end up with all the same junk! We recommend using this transition as an opportunity to clean house, and get rid of the junk that's been cluttering your life - like spam! We'll tell you how to best avoid receiving spam in the new system, and how to get rid of things that you don't want to move over. |
The Time Element |
Some of the things that need to be done will take very little time and effort. Others can be extremely time consuming and difficult, especially if you have a lot of items to work with. We'll warn you about the things that may take an extended time, so you can work on them when you have the time. |
Risk of Data Loss |
When you transfer information from the UVSC to the UVU system, it is important to do things correctly so you don't lose any data. Some steps are simple and don't have much risk, but other steps, should you choose to take them, carry risk of data loss, especially if you choose to do them in risky ways. As we teach you how to perform each step, we'll discuss the risks and our recommendations to avoid data loss. |
Dealing with Multiple Accounts |
The method of ensuring that all Internet messages arrive in your UVU mailbox instead of your UVSC mailbox is to use Transfer Step 5: Forward UVSC E-Mail to the UVU system. If properly set up, all Internet mail will be delivered to your UVU mailbox instead of your UVSC mailbox. Please don't try this on your own. We will walk you through how to do this correctly.
Despite all good efforts, it will be impossible to ensure that everyone moves from the old system to the new system at the same time. It is possible that someone in the old system will send you a message or an appointment to your old account before it has been terminated, but after you have made the transition to the new system. To ensure this doesn't cause you any problems, disable all rules (we'll show you how) and check the old system regularly for anything that has been delivered until you have terminated your account. Similarly, to ensure you don't send something to someone in the old system who has already moved to the new system, you should always use the new system to send to UVU employees after July 1, 2008. NOTE: To compare your old and new accounts, open your new account in GroupWise, and use GroupWise WebAccess to view your old account at the same time. |
| Notice: Due to a bug in Internet Explorer, attachments in GroupWise WebAccess will not open nor save when using Internet Explorer (all versions). We recommend using FireFox to access GroupWise WebAccess. | ||
