Here is your opportunity to start fresh and create an environment in your GroupWise account that is productive and comfortable. With a clean slate, figure out how you would like to work in the new system. Consider how you would like to organize your messages, appointments, and other items. Think about how you can be most productive. We've created short video tutorials to show you how to do some basic things that can increase your productivity and efficiency in working with GroupWise.

NOTE: To compare your old and new accounts, open your new account in GroupWise, and use GroupWise WebAccess to view your old account at the same time.
Notice: Due to a bug in Internet Explorer, attachments in GroupWise WebAccess will not open nor save when using Internet Explorer (all versions). We recommend using FireFox to access GroupWise WebAccess.

Signatures

An e-mail signature can be added to each message you send automatically, or only on those messages you want it to be added to. Remember that good e-mail etiquette says to use no more than 4-6 lines in your signature and no graphics or special formatting. Signatures should be simple and give the essential information your recipient needs to know. Click here for more suggestions. GroupWise allows the use of multiple signatures, so you can customize your signature to your audience.

Folders

Folders provide the filing system you need for all your many messages. Think of folders as your online file cabinet. Consider filing a way to keep your inbox uncluttered and all the information you need at your fingertips. Remember that items placed in folders are subject to the same retention policies as your inbox (items older than 135 days are automatically deleted.)

Calendars

Much like folders help you organize your messages, GroupWise calendars provide a filing system for your many appointments. Appointments that are in different calendars can show up in different colors in your master calendar, indicating your interest or the purpose of the appointment. Calendars can help you put all the facets of your life together in an organized way.

Junk Mail Handling

How is junk mail different from spam? Junk mail refers to messages that you don't want, but that aren't truly spam. For instance, if you do business with a company, and they add you to a newsletter that you don't want, that is junk mail.

GroupWise has a feature called Junk Mail Handling that can help you deal with junk mail. Junk Mail Handling does not apply to internal items. Internal items are messages where the sender is part of the GroupWise system and the "From" field shows only the name of the sender (not an internet e-mail address). However, emails that are addressed with the UVU email domain "uvu.edu" may be added to the Block or Junk Lists in error. If a UVU email address (from uvu.edu) appears on your Block or Junk Lists you will be at risk of not receiving email from other Faculty or Staff on the UVU Groupwise system.

Cleanup

GroupWise can help you keep your mail, calendar, and trash cleaned up automatically. The system automatically deletes items older than 135 days, but you can set up your GroupWise to clean up even sooner.

Proxy

When you allow someone to proxy your e-mail account, they essentially become you. Be careful to whom you give access, and how much access you give them.

Rules

Rules are used to automate many GroupWise actions such as replying to messages when you're out of the office, forwarding, deleting, or sorting items into folders automatically. There are so many types of rules that can be created, we can't show you them all here, but we will show you how to create a spam handling setup with ease.

Manuals and Documentation

We can't tell you about or show you everything that GroupWise can do to make your life easier and more productive on this web site. So we've included links to documentation and manuals from Novell that we think you might find helpful.
